Job Description

Position Summary:

The herd manager will provide herd data on feeding, breeding, animal health, ect, to farm management on a regular and consistent basis. Maximizing efficiency, align goals, maintain creative focus and implementation of sound business practices across the farm.

Play a lead roll in the management of the overall cattle herd, health, laborers, ROI, feed use, land and resources use and hold other accountable for their duties. Effective communication inspires others as a leader. Assist in the organization of the overall business on the cattle/feed front.

Performance Objectives

Livestock health and handling is of the utmost priority in ensuring the health and safety of our livestock.

Maintain feed rations inventory and usage.

Pasture Management & Fencing Maintainance essential for the health and safety of us and our livestock.

Recording information on feeding keeps our records up to date and rates of gain tracked.

Effective breeding rates to increase herd size.

Successful calving rates, minimize death loss.

Help to ease our pain points throughout our growth cycles with your expertise and experience.

Pasture maintainance

General Skills

Understanding of tractor operation

Basic knowledge of crop production; corn, beans, hay and silage.

Basic knowledge of feeding techniques and livestock handling.

Basic Knowledge of equipment.

Expert knowledge of fencing. We use a lot of Gallagher systems products.

Valid driver’s license with Class A CDLpreferred but not required.

Artificial Insemination experience helpful but not required.

Vaccinations and freeze branding.

Other duties

The farmhand may be required to undertake other unforeseen duties at times to assist the running of the farm business . This may require the acquisition of additional skills. The timeliness of operations and overall profitability of the farm is essential and may involve long hours and extra effort at peak work times.

The herd manager is responsible for keeping up with livestock manager certification (BQA). Greater earning potential with increased skills and experience.

Dress The farmhand shall at all times be well presented in work clothes, hat and working boots which provide protection from the weather and from minor injuries. Work gloves and/or eye protection may be needed for some duties and should be worn for protection.

Confidentiality The farmhand is required to treat as confidential all farm production and business information. Authority is required from the owner prior to divulging any information to a third party.

Pay: From $42,000.00 per year
