Job Summary
Responsible to provide technical assistance, value chain development advice, and implementation support to small and medium-sized enterprises (SME’s), clusters, and producer organizations in the development of market linkages in the agriculture sector so that these become profitable, bankable, and self-sustaining. All work streams will be conducted in close collaboration with the Director of Asset Creation who has overall responsibility for the implementation of the Asset Creation area of flourishing in the new program model.
Principal Responsibilities
Demand Driven Technical Leadership

Support the design and planning of agriculture value chain technical programs and projects.
Support the design of the overall capacity development for both aspiring and existing entrepreneurs in the agriculture value chain.
Identify needs for start-up packages and non-financial business development services for entrepreneurs and lead the design and implementation of these components.
Identify gaps and lead the design and delivery of agriculture value chain services for the farmers and entrepreneurs.

Support Program Delivery for Professional Excellence

Provide demand based technical backstopping for Technical Programs and projects related to the agriculture value chain.
Provide supportive supervision to ensure operational excellence.
Mitigate any reputational risk by ensuring programs achieve high quality standards and deliver the desired results.
Design, develop and deliver entrepreneurship and enterprise capacity development materials for the agriculture value chain.

Partnerships and Collaboration

Develop and maintain positive relationships with key thought leaders and relevant local public and private stakeholders in order to innovate and impact global development related to agriculture value chain.
Support design and development of any grants funding opportunities.
Explore opportunities for partnerships and support pre-positioning for any revenue growth opportunities.
Support country offices in designing and developing proposals to generate funding at the local levels.
Participate and represent FH in relevant external conferences and forums related to agriculture value chain.

Create Evidence Based Knowledge Assets

Support the design and implementation of the monitoring framework and plan as it relates to agriculture value chain components of the program.
Undertake annual market assessments of training needs and market demands for agriculture value chain training, including the supply and demand for skills (soft, vocational, technical etc.).
Develop research, innovation, and learning agenda for agriculture value chain.
Publish well researched articles in reputed journals demonstrating the learning and effectiveness of agriculture value chain programming.

Job Level Specifications

Vibrant personal relationship with Jesus Christ and Christian commitment to serving the poor and in full agreement with FH’s Christian beliefs.
Strong networking and relationship building skills with an ability to work with producer organizations to link shareholders to markets.
Working knowledge of agricultural production systems.
Developing country work experience required, African experience an asset.
Hands-on experience in training needs identification, design of training programs and tools, and delivery of training in developing country contexts required.
Excellent computer skills.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Ability to work to tight deadlines and under pressure.
High degree of initiative, flexibility, and creativity.
Ability to work well within a small team and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Able to travel 35% to insecure countries or locations.

Experience

5+ years of experience in business planning skills, including SME development, market studies, and value chain analysis.
Prior experience in a complex, matrixed organization, with the ability to scale processes in a global, professional, service organization.
Non-profit ministry experience is a plus.

Education/Certifications

Bachelor’s degree in market studies, value chain, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
