We are currently seeking a self-motivated individual to join our team as an Agribusiness Commercial Lines Underwriter Trainee. In this role, you will train to underwrite risk that determines the selection/rejection of new and renewal commercial agribusiness/farm business. The trainee will gain an understanding of the underwriting thought process and learn to utilize underwriting guidelines, procedures, rating manual rules and insurance laws/regulations. Additionally, the Trainee will learn the skills required to develop and maintain strong relationships with agents and insureds within assigned territory.
The trainee will participate in an extensive training program involving instruction and self-study combined with on-the-job shadowing that will provide the opportunity to learn the business. Upon successful mastery, the underwriter trainee will evaluate existing and new accounts and make underwriting recommendations within limited authority on assignments of moderate technical complexity. This position will be located in our Sarasota, FL office and will include occasional travel in the regional territory. Our CLU Trainee program starts in January 2024.

Experience Required
Bachelor’s Degree (relevant, progressively responsible work experience may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education). Emphasis in Risk Management Insurance or Agribusiness preferred.
Ability to develop knowledge of underwriting processes, coverages, tools and company products and services.
Ability to develop working knowledge of the ISO Underwriting Manual, AAIS, NCCI and coverage forms.
Excellent communication, negotiation, relationship building, interpersonal and organizational skills.
Ability to analyze, define and solve problems; the use of good judgment and decision-making.
Ability to determine customer needs, provide solutions and price business appropriately.
