Primary responsibilities are associated with the VTSAS cattle operations which includes herd health, breeding, feeding, general husbandry, pasture management for both the purebred and commercial teaching and research herds.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Pasture and hayfield management, fence construction and maintenance. Operating various pieces of farm equipment including tractors, skid steers, backhoes, feed trucks, etc.
Assisting with or managing estrus synchronization, AI breeding, pregnancy maintenance, calving to maintain herd size necessary for teaching and research needs. Care, maintenance and husbandry of the entire cattle operation. Including but not limited to nutritional management, reproductive management, herd health management, collection and recording of cattle data utilizing the Cattlemax software. Assisting with teaching labs and working with undergrads and grad students. Assisting with the entire SAS farming operation and all SAS livestock units.
Prior experience managing a livestock unit preferred plus B.S. degree in agriculture related field, or equivalent years of education and experience. Class A CDL, AI breeding certificate required.
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
