Job Description

Maintains agricultural production and quality by ensuring year-round operation of irrigation equipment, pumps, farm machinery, and facilities and participates in seasonal farming operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on center pivots, irrigation systems above and below ground, tractors, planting and tillage implements, engines, motors, pneumatic tools; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.

Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.

Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts.

Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
Informs agricultural workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance.
Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.
Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.
Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests.
Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; establishing personal networks.
Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Maintains all maintenance logs on assigned shift
Sees that company tools and equipment are maintained properly
Promotes and exhibits strong safety practices
Ensures timely and proper completion of work orders
Perform other duties as assigned
Each employee shall comply with occupational safety and health standards and all rules, regulations, and orders issued pursuant to the Occupational Safety and Health Act which are applicable to his/her own actions and conduct.
Complies with all applicable food safety regulations and mandates (Safe Quality Foods, Food and Drug Admin, Pasteurized Milk Ordinance)

Additional Functions

Must have own hand tools and knowledge of proper use

QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training:
High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate.

Experience Required:
Equipment Maintenance, Technical Understanding, Technical Zeal, Deals with Uncertainty, Basic Safety, Power Tools, Attention to Detail, Flexibility, Supervision, Job Knowledge, Productivity. Previous experience in a related field is strongly preferred.

Situational Adaptability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of factors in situations where limited standardization exists. Must be able to work flexible hours to include Nights, weekends, holidays and overtime when needed.
Agricultural Knowledge: Working knowledge of irrigation systems above and below ground, and agricultural equipment operation and maintenance. Ability to operate (or learn to operate) necessary equipment.
Mechanical Skills : Requires skills in welding, electrical, troubleshooting, and maintenance & repair of irrigation and agricultural equipment. Prior experience working on pivots, pumps and other irrigation equipment, pipe installation and repair and experience with farm machinery and tractors.
Safety: Knowledge of OSHA safety requirements for an agricultural operation and strict adherence to those requirements.

Language, Computer & Numeracy:
Must be fluent in English with excellent verbal and written communication skills
Familiarity with GMP’s, SOP, & SAG’s

Specific vision requirements for this job include close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less); distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point); depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships).
Must be able to climb ladders up to 20’ off ground.

Typical Environmental Conditions

  • May be exposed to moderate noise levels (i.e. office equipment, light traffic).
  • May be exposed to humidity, intense heat and cold, and outdoor weather conditions.
  • May work in areas with mechanical moving parts, or areas with risk of electrical shock.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to get to the Gooding Farm daily in all seasons.
