Preferred Qualifications: At least one year of livestock experience
Knowledge of dairy cattle management
Knowledge of general practices and operations of equipment

Job Description:

Under limited supervision of the Dairy Manager, performs the standard operating procedures for the care and milking of dairy cattle. Assists the dairy researchers and supervisors with the collection of data related to animal research. Performs mechanical and maintenance duties. Principal emphasis is on the daily operations within the dairy unit including milking, general care and housekeeping of the animals on an eight hour per day shift. Assists in the preparation of facilities for research and teaching projects. Maintains the dairy buildings and equipment and keeps them in good working condition and performs various duties related to the care and management of the dairy unit. Independent judgment is required to assess, prioritize and schedule jobs. Will supervise a team of students, part-time and full-time employees.

Collects, records, and summarizes research data.
Manages and coordinates a set of agricultural resources.
Implements research protocols.
Contributes to experimental design, management, and analysis.
Consults with project leaders on experiments, protocol, and progress.
Monitors and oversees machinery and property maintenance and repair.
Assists with field operations.
Observes, diagnoses, and remedies livestock/crop problems.

Level Guidelines

Intermediate-level position with solid professional and/or technical skills working under general supervision to achieve goals
Applies broad, working knowledge of the principles of the field to moderately complex, difficult, and varied problems and issues
Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and resolve problems
Responds to a broad range of inquiries and requests
May provide training and/or direction to lower-level staff
May lead projects of moderate scope and complexity
Provides guidance to students
