Agriculture Instructor – Contract Position – January 22, 2024-May 17, 2024
Principal Function: Reporting to the Director of Agriculture, this contract position is responsible for developing curriculum and teaching Agriculture, Horticulture and Natural Resources curriculum for high school students during the spring semester 2024 at Conner Prairie Museum. This position will create and deliver coursework for multi- track classes in Agri-Science, Horticulture and Natural Resources, as well as a Capstone project for second-year students. This position will work closely with Conner Prairie Agriculture and Education Staff to plan and schedule time with our animals, additional hands-on experiences and behind the scenes work with museum departments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to:
1. Develop and implement a curriculum that meets the course standards.
2. Prepare course materials for instruction and assessment.
3. Available to teach courses on-site or virtually, Monday through Friday from 12:30-3:30 PM during the school year.
4. Administer evaluations of student performance based on course deliverables and course rubrics.
5. Submit grades for any assignments, discussion board exercises, exams and course completion.
6. Coordinate with Agriculture Staff to develop hands-on learning experiences with Conner Prairie’s livestock.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s Degree (B.A./B.S.) in agriculture, animal science, or other related field is required; knowledge of horticulture is desired. A teaching license or certification is preferred but not required. Previous experience in agricultural education is desired.
Other Skills and Abilities: The following skills and abilities are either required or desired.
● Computer software skills required include: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
● A working knowledge of the day-to-day operations of the organization is required.
● A working knowledge of informal educational and general learning theory.
● The ability to operate a computer, printer, copy machine, scanner, fax machine, and other office equipment is required.
● The ability to speak, read and write in English is required. Spanish is desired.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally is exposed to working near moving mechanical parts and the risk of electrical shock when working with office equipment and outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
While the offices of Conner Prairie are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, this position may require work beyond these hours and on the weekends. It also may require occasional domestic travel. Thus, a valid driver’s license is desired.
