Job Summary
This position is located at the Brewton Research Center in Brewton, Alabama.
The individual selected for this position will perform basic level farm and technical research tasks for the Brewton Agricultural Research Unit.

Essential Functions
Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
Operating and maintaining farm machinery and equipment in support of agricultural research
Assisting in soil preparation, planting, laying out research plots, harvesting row crops
Application of fertilizers, pesticides, and other chemicals
Assist in the production of horticulture crops such as vegetables, fruits and nuts
Performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Some light construction and building maintenance, and irrigation system repair and maintenance will also be expected when needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Level I: High school diploma or equivalent.
Level II: High school diploma or equivalent plus 1 year of experience in research practices and protocols.
Level
III
: High school diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of experience in research practices and protocols.
Level IV: High school diploma or equivalent plus 6 years of experience in research practices and protocols.
Substitutions allowed for Experience:
When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience
Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications
Minimum Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of farm equipment and safety.
Ability to count and use measuring equipment accurately.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
Minimum Technology Skills
Minimum License and Certifications
Valid drivers license or the ability to obtain one prior to selection is required.
Must obtain pesticide applicators license within one year of employment.
Desired Qualifications
Desired Qualifications
Experience and/or knowledge of row crop production and ability to operate farm equipment, loader and/or backhoe is desired.
