Title: Animal Care Technician
Reports To: Supervisor of Technical Operations
Basic Summary
Responsible for overall conduct of the day-to-day husbandry procedures on the animals at Accuro Farms Inc.
Duties and Responsibilities

Perform daily feeding, pen cleaning, health monitoring and positive human contact for laboratory animals.
Perform daily health checks, animal census and other study-related duties as assigned.
Monitor and document environmental parameters of assigned animal holding rooms.
Perform and/or assist in technical procedures, animal treatments, sample collection and body weights as instructed.
Maintain accurate and legible documentation and records.
Review, correct and verify study data.
Assist with the import and export of animals while maintaining necessary paperwork and documentation.
Assist in animal quarantine, biosafety, and health monitoring programs.
Ability to understand and verify animal identification methods.
Monitor and ensure availability of facility, animal and technical supplies and equipment.
Follow all company SOPs, policies, guidelines and procedures.
Comply with applicable federal, state, and municipal laws and regulations, institutional policies and accreditation standards for the humane care and use of laboratory animals.
Work with Management, Study Directors, Facilities Maintenance and Veterinary staff in reporting and correcting animal concerns and facility related issues.
Other projects, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: High School or GED
Experience:
1 to 2 years’ experience in general animal husbandry, livestock preferred.
Able to use basic computer programs for word processing, spreadsheet production and various programs.

Certifications:
Achieve entry level for AAALAS certification within one year of employment.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to walk, bend, kneel, be on a ladder, sit, work in the vivarium, use hands and fingers to handle objects and tools.
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to repetitively lift objects weighing up to 60 pounds.
While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally required to lift objects weighing up to 80 pounds.
While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to have vision abilities that include close vision, depth perception, peripheral vision and the ability to focus.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to wear protective clothing provided by the company that include eye wear, face masks, hair covers, shoe covers, lab coats, steal toed footwear and nitrile gloves.
While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally required to work in confined spaces and outside in inclement weather conditions.
While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally required to work with moving parts, sharp objects, toxic and caustic chemicals, biohazardous materials and live animals.
While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, odors, wet conditions, hot and cold elements.
While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally exposed to moderate to high noise levels which are mitigated using protective ear coverings.

Job Type: Full Time
Pay: $17.00 – $20.00 per hour
