Job Description
The animal caregiver assists in the care of 60 animals (pigs, chickens, ducks, turkeys, cats, dogs) living at the sanctuary and assists in the management of the volunteer program under the supervision of the Executive Director. Caregivers are responsible for feeding, cleaning, and medical care of the animals.
Organization: Heartwood Haven is a nonprofit sanctuary and rescue for farmed animals and a vegan educational/advocacy organization located in Roy, WA, on a 45-acre farm
Responsibilities:
-Animal feeding/watering and maintaining feed schedules
-Daily animal health care and maintaining treatment records
-Daily cleaning duties and maintaining shelters and habitats
-Aiding with health checks
-Training and supervising sanctuary volunteers
-Assisting with vet visits, food/hay pickups, adoptions, rescues
-Completing office projects as assigned
-Maintaining sanctuary grounds
Qualifications:
-Passionate about working for and with farmed animals
-Previous experience working at a vet clinic, rescue, or farm preferred
-Reliable, dependable and flexible
-Good animal behavior and observation skills
-Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions including hot (90F+), cold (20F), wet/raining and snow
-Able to lift 50+lbs and perform hard/strenuous labor. A large part of the job requires cleaning barns, lifting feed bags (50lbs), and working with others to lift/move hay bales weighing up to 150lbs.

Salary: $16-20 DOE, performance review after 3 months
Hours/Days: 30-40 hours per week M-F, working weekends is not required unless it fits better with your schedule
