Assistant Attorney General- Farm and Freedom Division in Des Moines, IA 50319
Part TimeJob Description
Job Description
Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird seeks a lawyer to serve as an Assistant Attorney General in the Farm & Freedom Division. The Farm & Freedom Division generally handles the Office of the Attorney Generals highest-profile and most complex civil litigation. That includes defending State laws and rules, suing the federal government to keep it within its constitutional and statutory limits, and protecting the public by representing the State and its officers in major civil litigation. The Divisions recent cases include defending Iowas heartbeat law, suing the EPA for refusing to comply with the Clean Air Act, and defending Iowas liquor laws from out-of-state challenges. Lawyers in this elite unit must be creative, motivated, and able to handle complex litigation as part of a leanly staffed trial team. The Division works closely with the Solicitor General Division and assists it once a case has been appealed, including to the Eighth Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court. In addition to a collegial environment among many of the best lawyers in the state, perks of working for the Office of the Attorney General include flexible work-from-home schedules; excellent work-life balance and benefits; and no hourly billing. Requirements This position requires a license to practice law in Iowa; a dedication to public service; and demonstrated research, writing, and oral-advocacy skills. The most competitive applicants will have served as a judicial clerk and have extensive motion and courtroom experience. Salary ranges from $57,636.80$139,318.40 depending on experience.
