Overview
Peacehaven’s farming program primarily serves as a medium for accomplishing our mission of connecting people of all abilities. Currently, we do this through greenhouse/hydroponics, raised beds, and in-ground farming that engages our Core Members and volunteers in the growing and maintenance of chemically-free produce. Our produce currently feeds our Core Members (people with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities that live at Peacehaven) and goes to local food banks.
Our vision for the future of farming on our 90-acre property is a unique blend of two foci: small-to-medium production and innovative/educational models of growing healthy and environmentally sustainable food distributed through various markets in the community.

Job summary
To accomplish our goals of scaling our farming operations it is crucial to maintain the farm in a productive, organized, and accessible state at all times and seasons. The Asst. Farm Manager position will help achieve these goals by working in close collaboration with the Director of Agriculture (DOA) to plan, prepare for, and implement farming and gardening activities throughout the year.

Specific Job Functions:
    • Collaborate with DOA to develop farm/garden plans.
    • Implement farm/garden plans:
    • Ordering necessary seeds, supplies, and soil amendments
    • Preparing garden and field areas for each planting season
    • Maintaining growing areas, greenhouses, hoophouses, etc. in an organized, operational state at all times
    • Ensuring that planting and harvesting are carried out according to plan to ensure that seasonal goals are met
    • Provide necessary maintenance of the farm/garden, including:
    • Weeding
    • Watering
    • Pest Control (Organic approved only)
    • Mulching
    • Develop, implement, and monitor a fertility management plan for the farm (in collaboration with the DOA).
    • Keep accurate, organized farm records
    • Harvest, prepare, and deliver produce for market
    • Interact with customers/clients in a manner consistent with the values of Peacehaven
    • Help the DOA with the training/coaching of interns and oversee their tasks on the farm.
    • Assist DOA with direction and coaching of volunteer teams, including sharing responsibility of Saturday volunteer workdays.
  • Use farm equipment in a safe, responsible manner.
Additional non-required job functions:
    • Collaborate with Lead Educator to enhance educational programs for adults with IDD.
  • Assist Lead Educator with garden tasks and training for the R.I.S.E program

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field
    • Good written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills to articulate the PCF mission and programs to a diverse group of constituents.
    • Must be a creative, innovative individual with a strong work ethic.
    • Energetic self-starter with strong organizational skills; the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously, with attention to detail and quality.
  • Team-player who works with minimal supervision and exercises sound independent judgment while being supported by a group of knowledge experts in the field.
