Our cows are the heart of the farm! Our milking herd includes about 50 head of primarily Normande cows. Our cows are usually very curious and gentle to be with. Everyone is given a name starting with the same first letter as her mother.

Their diet is 100% grass fed with access to free choice minerals and kelp. We graze from May through November, practicing intensive rotational grazing on our pastures.

The Assistant Herd Manager will help and oversee all aspects of running an intensive grazing dairy operation. This job calls for a patient and observant individual who has a good animal sense and can remember everyone’s names and due dates.

Grazing, planning, milking oversight, reproductive management, calf care and basic veterinary care all fall under this position.

Needs to be able to give a hand to our chickens and pigs as being part of a diversified livestock operation.

Assistant Herd Manager responsibilities include:

– milking shifts

– maintaining/ cleaning milking machines/ systems and equipment

– Pasture management

– building fences

– record keeping

– possible AI work

– operating farm equipment for feeding/ watering

Good Skills to have:

– milking experience

– ability to lift 50lbs

– tractor experience preferred

– chainsaw experience preferred

– record keeping

– grazing, electric fencing preferred

– attention to detail, hardworking, reliable

– positive attitude and team spirit

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $15.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift

Experience:

  • Farming: 1 year (Preferred)
