Position Summary:
This position is an Assistant Professor (Precision Agriculture) within the School of Agricultural Sciences in the College of Agricultural, Life, and Physical Sciences at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. This is a 9-month tenure track position with opportunities for summer research support. Salary commensurate with experience. Position is available August 16, 2024.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will develop and teach precision agriculture and related course(s) to address the technical needs of graduates working in the precision agricultural industry and the interdisciplinary applications within agriculture. The successful candidate will develop a research program leading toward extramural funding and refereed publications. The faculty member will also mentor graduate students and advise undergraduates on special projects and participate in outreach activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Earned doctorate by the time of appointment with a primary emphasis in precision agriculture in Agricultural and Biological Engineering, Agricultural Systems Management, or closely related technical discipline.
Demonstrated effectiveness in oral and written communication.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated expertise in precision agriculture technologies, such as: GPS, GIS, VRT, UAVs, remote sensing, electronic measurement, analysis and decision making related to agricultural management.
Experience in college level teaching and/or ability to teach precision agriculture and related courses.
Professional work experience.
Strong skills in computing and data analysis related to precision agriculture.
Demonstrated knowledge of crop production systems in Midwestern U.S.
Experience in grant writing and refereed publications.
