Bison Farm Crew Member in Culpeper, VA

Two Openings:

Live-on open position: We are seeking someone that has some experience with either large livestock agriculture or operating a tractor. Please only respond if you have some experience and skills in this field.

Local (no housing) open position: Same as below, but does not require any experience and does not provide housing.

The work for this position will be mostly field and livestock work, but everyone must be knowledgeable and available to support the retail store, the occasional delivery
• Assist farm manager.
• Support all labor projects on the farm.
• Facilities Cleaning
• General Field Work
• General Livestock Care – bison and small scale livestock.
• Tractor handling / Round bale feeding.
• Drive: Farm truck for local pick-ups and deliveries.
• Drive: Refrigerated truck and other vehicles as required.
• Market support. Periodic retail store sales. Moving of meats around freezers and some restocking and retail sales work.
• Hospitality support work with small campground and cabin visitors.
• Support medicinal mushroom grow operation.

Applicants must be 18 years and older and have a car.

Skills Required:
• Ability to pay attention and follow instruction.
• Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs., such as a feed sack.
• Requires a valid VA, DC or MD driver’s license and a record that passes insurance company review. If you don’t have one of these yet, you will need to get one from the local DMV within 10 days of hire, as required by our insurance to operate our vehicles.
• Be willing to work outdoors regardless of the weather.
• Some agricultural or mechanical experience preferred.

Note that if you are applying for the local (no housing) position, the farm is located in Culpeper County, and you must live within close enough proximity in order to be able to get to work in inclement weather, be available for the periodic emergency situation and maintain a sustainable situation for both employer and employee. Anything that is more than 30 minutes away is too far.
