Wildcat Valley Farms operates a diversified farm focusing on row crops, direct to consumer pork and beef sales, and an beef embryo recipient program.

We are looking for someone to oversee our cattle operation which consists of 150 recipient cows as well as a varying number of fed cattle.
The ideal candidate can operate equipment, have a flexible schedule, a great work ethic, understand bovine reproduction/physiology and nutrition, and have good communication skills.

Position: Cattle Operations Manager

Primary Responsibilities:
Oversee and schedule cattle feeding activities
Oversee calving and breeding activities and schedule assistance if needed
Deliver marketed livestock to market outlets attaining highest value possible
Monitor condition and maximize production of pastures; rotate livestock, renovate, and fertilize as needed
Oversee that salt and mineral is accessible at all times, and fly control is administered during
pasture grazing
Monitor stocks of feed, supplements, salt, and mineral; restock supplies as needed
Perform spring and fall vaccinations and assist vets in pregnancy and semen testing activities
Monitor breeding stock condition (bulls, replacement heifers, brood cows); make recommendations for purchasing replacements and selling culls
Monitor herd health (disease, illness, lameness) and observe heats in pastures (2x/day) and feedlots (1-2x/wk);
Make treatments where feasible (oral, topical, IM, IV, SQ injections, epidurals) or arrange for vet services as needed
Ensure that essential veterinary equipment and supplies are on hand
Make recommendations and execute improvements needed to fences and other cattle improvements to ensure functionality and safety of cattle and employees
Monitor condition of water sources (creeks and troughs)
Pull forage samples for analysis and work with nutritionist to develop rations
Keep track of cattle inventories and locations
Oversee that barns are clean and excess manure is removed from feedlots and feedways
Research/attend continuing education seminars that will benefit cattle operation
Assist with forage harvest and other general farm related tasks

Client Related Responsibilities (Primary)

Maintain updated lists of: client embryo inventory, calving records; cow records on historical calving and breeding performance; bull management data; and other data relevant to management of cattle operation
Communicate with ET clients; calving and breeding updates
Coordinate ET activities (synchronization, implantation, embryo procurement) with clients and vet
Assist in cost of production evaluation, system improvement, and budget planning related to livestock operations
Attain highest possible ET conception and weaning percentage

Secondary Responsibilities

Operate farm machinery and assist in agronomic areas of farm operation when available around cattle duties
Provide assistance with freezer beef and pork; marketing, inventory (in feedlot and in freezer), pricing, processor scheduling, online orders, and customer service.
