Summary

CHS has an exciting opportunity as a Commodity Originator/Agronomist in our sunflower business to assist in procurement, contract management and management of the hybrid planting seed inventory for our Grandin, ND confection sunflower facility.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with team members to forecast origination needs.
Contract targeted acres with farmers, brokers, elevators balancing cost, historic crop quality, and geographic risk.
Conduct freight/storage negotiations
Work with existing customer base and engage new growers via trade shows and speaking events, cold calling, etc.
Keep apprised of agricultural commodity markets and issues that could affect our business.
Provide agronomic advice as needed.
Conduct field visits throughout the growing season to verify acreage, estimate yields and seed size.
Identify any issues with crop conditions and if possible, troubleshoot.
Project crop harvest and collaborate with operations manager and production planner to develop short-term and long-term delivery schedules and plan storage needs.
Maintain estimates of on-farm inventory and review shipments prior to settlement.
Maintain records of planting seed inventory at all locations.
Arrange for seed shipment, and occasionally make deliveries and collect and inspect returns.
Monitor seed inventory quality.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (required)

High School diploma or GED
2+ years of experience in Agronomy and/or Commodities

Additional Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
Basic understanding of agricultural commodities and pricing, truck freight, and inventory management
Strong agronomic background including knowledge of sunflowers
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to build and maintain business relationships
Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills
High level of accuracy and attention to detail and ability to multitask
Ability to be flexible, adaptive, and work independently

CHS offers a competitive total compensation package.
Compensation: This includes base wage and may consist of other earnings depending upon position within CHS, consisting of bonuses, incentives, commissions, merit pay. This position may be an opportunity for promotion.
