Salary Range: $3,543 – $5,300 per month

The minimum starting salary for this position is $3,542 per month (salary grade J). Exceptions for higher compensation may be considered based on education and experience in accordance with Department of Human Resources (DOHR) policy.

Who we are and what we do:
The mission of the Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC) is to operate safe and secure prisons and provide effective community supervision in order to enhance public safety. The department manages and operates or oversees 14 state prisons with approximately 21,000 offenders. In addition, the department supervises some 79,000 offenders on probation, parole, or community correction and operates six Day Reporting/Community Resource Centers across the state. The department is fully accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA).

How you make a difference in this role:
This position is responsible for supervision of the Statewide Farming program. The individual selected for this position will oversee agricultural equipment, personnel, and agricultural program efforts on a Statewide basis. The position is located at a TDOC operational facility.

Key Responsibilities:

The role assists each farm site to develop a yearly plan as to what will be grown, and how much with input from the Wardens and Aramark to share with the TDOC Executive Staff.
Provide training material for institutional farm staff and inmates ensuring Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and The Department of Agricultural Standards are followed at our farm sites.
Do at least a quarterly site visit of each site to check on the progress of each farm and to ensure proper operation and maintaining of equipment.
Ensure our farming equipment is adequately assigned to each institution and make recommendations to our departmental fleet manager on replacement of old equipment or additional needs for new equipment.
Coordinate deliveries of produce to our female facility `The Next Door in Chattanooga.
Aid with any problems that may arise on our farms or with our Aramark partners.
Report on equipment and vehicles from our FMM fleet in Nashville and the Regionals Directors each month on mileage, servicing, and repairs.
Complete a monthly fuel report for our Middle Tennessee farm and central landscape operation.
Complete a monthly cost avoidance report on our statewide farming operation and middle Tennessee central landscape to include our heavy equipment assistance provided to the three Nashville Prisons.
Act as liaison between the TDOC and TDOT on land use at Cockrill bend for the TDEC approved landfill sites.
Act as a liaison between TDOC and TSU for the purpose of providing hay for their cattle farm operation.

Minimum Qualifications:
Five years in a correctional setting with inmate supervision. Agriculture or horticulture training and experience is strongly preferred.
