Seasonal Dairy Herd Manager in Addison, VT

Kayhart Brothers Dairy is a 1250 cow dairy farm located on the shores of Lake Champlain in Addison, VT. We are operating a new dairy facility that we constructed in 2017 and are looking for a Herd Manager to help care for our cattle. Our dairy was constructed to operate with maximum labor efficiency. We utilize a management rail with sort gates and have a dedicated hoof trimming area.

This position will be working in a team of two with a very dedicated staff member already on board.

Responsibilities:
– Manage and oversee the daily operations of the herd
– Ensure the health and well-being of the animals under your care
– Develop and implement herd management strategies
– Monitor and maintain herd records, including breeding, health, and production data
– Coordinate with veterinarians for routine check-ups and medical treatments.

-Manage F.A.R.M. program in cooperation with farm ownership and herd vets.

-Manage Reproduction program and work with farm staff to achieve goals.

-Manage Calf Feeding Team.

Requirements:
– Previous experience in animal husbandry, preferably with large livestock such as cattle or horses
-Computer proficiency (preferably DairyComp)
– Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records
– Excellent communication skills to effectively coordinate with team members and veterinarians. Spanish speaking ability is a plus.
– Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Pay: $17.00 – $30.00 per hour
