Seasonal Director of Agricultural Services in Medford, WI
Job Description
Our Director of Ag Services will provide overall leadership for our Agricultural Division by creating and executing against both annual plans, as well as the 5-year planning process. He/she will be accountable for the overall business performance of the division which includes sales, profitability, customer experience, and talent management for the division. This role will also implement select areas of automation to improve the cooperatives efficiency and cost structure, while improving the overall customer experience and service levels.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Ag Services Directors responsibilities include overall leadership for the division. This includes overall performance that includes but is not limited to, topline sales performance, gross margin, bottom line profitability, customer service levels, and talent management.
This position is responsible for the procurement, hedging, pricing, inventory, and negotiations for raw materials including but not limited to grain, seed, fertilizer and other inputs.
In addition, this role will develop and implement risk management, operational safety, maintenance procedures, and food safety protocols that meet local, state, and federal regulations.
SALES, PROFITABILITY AND SERVICE LEVELS
Achieve department profitability goals and increasing the departments market share through optimal sales effort.
Establish and achieve the profitability and sales goals identified in the annual budget
Regular review financial reports to determine areas of optimization
Manage pricing to achieve gross margin goals and bottom line profitability
Provide mentoring and guidance to Ag Services sales position by making periodic on-farm contacts to assist the sales effort.
Review and enter daily invoices and sales to ensure pricing and inventory accuracy.
Maintain accurate grain bank records.
Review sales and purchase Seasonals monthly.
Conduct at least two Food Safety Plan audits yearly.
Complete monthly EOM process in a timely manner.
Measure and report grain volume on a quarterly basis.
Perform inventory counts on a quarterly basis.
Review credit reports with Accounts Receivable Manager as needed.
Report to General Manager/CEO long and short grain position monthly to ensure department is within Board of Director established limits.
INVENTORY / PURCHASING / Seasonal MANAGEMENT
Proactively manage inventory, future purchases, and Seasonal management to ensure a smooth flow of products and services to meet customer demand.
Develop and maintain a system for monitoring and controlling inventory levels that results in minimal shrinkage.
Supervise all shipments for accuracy against the delivery ticket, proper quantity, price as ordered, and quality.
Clear out obsolete inventories where appropriate.
Maintain inventories at levels to assure proper levels of service and minimize delivery delays, while maintaining inventory turn goals.
Purchase inventory from approved vendors when possible to maintain Food Safety Plan standards.
Ensure cost of products will allow for competitive pricing while still meeting the departments financial objectives.
Plan and execute appropriate hedging approach to minimize risk and reduce price volatility.
COMMUNICATION & TALENT MANAGEMENT
Establish department goals, objectives, and KPIs. Communicate and cascade goals throughout the department to focus the team on strategic opportunities.
Develop individual employee goals including personal development plans to continue to grow and enhance the capabilities of the team.
Execute performance management principles through effective goal management, tracking, and giving performance feedback.
INCREASE EFFICIENCY & PRODUCTIVITY
Analyze existing systems and processes to determine areas for optimization and efficiency gains. Determine which areas might benefit most from automation. Execute automation and efficiency plans to lower costs while increasing product quality and consistency.
ENHANCE CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE & SERVICE
Meet and exceed customer expectations for both product and services
Ensure all items sold through the department are delivered in a timely manner.
Introduce new products, services, and programs to drive bottom line results for your customers
Execute custom mixing for specialized programs and customer needs.
Supervise quality control to assure adherence of product specifications.
Manage staffing levels for appropriate coverage and service during seasonal fluctuations.
Grow our customer base and referrals.
OPERATIONS & MAINTENANCE
Ensure property, facilities, and equipment remains in proper repair and appearance.
Make recommendations on capital projects, replacement, additions, or disposal of facilities and equipment when needed and/or economically justified.
Maintain proper licenses for all operations and staff.
Maintain a clean and orderly operating environment
Determine which areas should be considered for operational automation
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Ag Services Director will perform other duties as assigned by the General Manager/CEO and will enforce and uphold the cooperatives credit policy.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
B.A. / B.S. degree preferred, but not required.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Prior P&L responsibility and financial acumen
Hedging and Seasonal management experience
Prior talent & performance management experience
Prior Agricultural operations and automation experience
