Job Description

Sweetland Farm in Norwich, Vermont is seeking experienced, enthusiastic, and reliable people to join the fall farm crew on our 200-acre diversified farm. Our 10-acre vegetable operation supplies a 350-member CSA and road-side farm stand. The rest of the farmland consists of actively managed hay fields, livestock pastures, perennial crops, and woodlot.

Sweetland’s Farm Crew is the driving force behind our farm. Crew participate in all major aspects and enterprises of the farm, from vegetable production to livestock to haying to orchard care. The Fall Field Crew joins us for the late season push to harvest CSA vegetables, fruits, and storage crops, tackle end-of-season projects and improvements, and “put the farm to bed” for winter. Field Crew Assist With:

  • Vegetable Production & Harvest
  • Planting
  • Hand weeding & hoeing
  • Harvest of weekly CSA and bulk storage crops
  • Wash & pack
  • CSA setup & distribution
  • Pastured livestock
  • Daily chores (feed, water, health checks)
  • Fence setup for rotational grazing (pigs, chickens & turkeys)
  • Turkey harvest
  • Orchard & Forest (Fruits, Nuts, & Christmas Trees)
  • Weeding/fertilizing/maintaining fruit trees
  • Fruit harvest
  • Pruning
  • Forest invasives removal
  • Projects
  • Basic carpentry projects
  • Tool & equipment cleaning & organizing
  • Irrigation & fencing cleanup
  • Transitioning hoop houses from summer to winter crop production
  • Capital projects implementation

An ideal candidate has

  • Production farming experience, preferably on a diversified farm
  • A strong and efficient work style
  • Willingness to work occasional weekend and evening hours
  • Stamina to work long hours outdoors in all weather and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Strong communication skills
  • Attention to detail

Schedule & Compensation

  • Part- and Full-time positions available
  • Starting compensation $13-15/hour, DOE
  • On-farm housing available
  • Free Brimming Basket CSA share for full-time staff
  • Staff discount on all farm stand items

Job Types: Full-time, Temporary, Part-time

Pay: $13.00 – $15.00 per hour
