Job Description

Fat Sheep Farm is hiring for a farm assistant for the first time in two years to start this April or May. This is a unique position. While we produce a lot of food, we are also a farm stay business. We need someone who enjoys traditional farm work, as well as, enjoys talking to all kinds of people, especially kids, and can provide a memorable educational experience for them on the farm.

In this position, you will have the opportunity to learn everything we do on the farm, including milking sheep, helping with lambing season, growing vegetables, maintaining our farm stand, providing educational experiences to our rental cabin guests, and, eventually, making cheese.

Ideally, this is a year-round position and you would help with all areas of the business and maintaining the property. The work schedule is 5 days a week/40 hours, Tuesday to Saturday. We also offer two paid weeks of vacation after a successful first six months on the job in your first year. Additional paid time off is available in a second year. We also offer a generous annual bonus as well.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who wants to learn all aspects of an agritourism business, wants to live in a beautiful place, and is willing to work hard. There are a couple of other people who work and live on the property and we enjoy having a friendly relationships with everyone. It’s an “all in the family” approach to the workplace. Everyone has their privacy but it is not uncommon that we would head out together to listen to some music or celebrate a birthday.

We can offer housing on site if desired. It’s a newly renovated, private studio apartment, full kitchen, a great view out a big window, and a private entrance. The compensation range reflects that housing might be included, as well as all utilities and internet.

On our website, www.fatsheepfarmvermont.com , you can find the many area attractions and things to do which you would have ample opportunity to enjoy.

The ideal candidate would have some farming experience, be willing to work in all weather conditions, be able to lift 50 pounds, and would approach the work with a positive attitude, sense of humor, and a commitment to be efficient, flexible, and helpful.
