Job Description

The Farm Foreman I, under general supervision, participates in farm work including the protection of crops.
Responsibilities:

Operate farm tractors and implements for small scale vegetable and field crop plots which includes plowing, disking, bedding, mulch application, seeding/transplanting, irrigating, spraying and harvesting which may include the need to lift heavy objects up to 50 pounds and high physical activity

Monitor and effectively control weeds and pests, perform and schedule drip, linear and center pivot irrigation and apply fertilizers

Manage data collection and record keeping of crops

Perform and manage fencing, welding, cleaning, and construction to keep all facilities in optimum working condition

Assist in coordinating repairs, maintenance schedules and proper maintenance of all farm equipment in close coordination with the Farm Manager to maintain safe and efficient equipment

Perform routine equipment calibrations

Assist in supporting mechanical shop needs, center grounds and center facilities needs

Assist in purchasing supplies and equipment

Assist in maintaining the grounds of the farm, safety procedures, and ensure that workers use appropriate personal protective equipment

Oversee and coordinate pesticide storage and use according to manufacturer’s recommendation and follow agency safety procedures

Maintain cover crops and crop rotations

Ensure the farm is always well-managed and maintained

Maintain dyed diesel fuel levels and ensure orders for refills are placed

Stay current with farming practices by attending seminars, educational events, field days, virtual and/or face-to-face trainings

Other duties as assigned
Required Education and Experience:
-
High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Two years of related experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-
Knowledge of field work
-
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others

Ability to drive tractors, with implements, and sprayers
-
Basic computer skills
Other Requirements:

Work beyond normal business hours and/or work on weekends

Ability to establish effective working relationships
