Job Description

The Farm Hand will be involved in farm maintenance, operating machinery, tending to livestock, maintaining the pastures, paddocks, pond, barns, and grounds, lawn maintenance, trimming trees, cutting wood, maintaining/repairing farm buildings, roads, and fences, and other farm-related duties.

Qualified candidates must have good communication and organization, be a self-starter, have problem-solving abilities, be a team-player, and have flexibility. We are looking for an honest dependable person who is invested in the farm lifestyle. Applicants must work well with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical duties:

  • Ability to operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, lawnmowers, self-propelled machinery, power, and hand tools
  • General sense of organization with tools and equipment in the shop and throughout the farm
  • Must be able to complete pre- and post-operation safety inspections on machinery
  • Inspect all tools and ensure they are fully operational; Report necessary repairs/replacements to management
  • Maintain and repair farm buildings, fences, and related items on the property
  • Required to drive trucks with trailers and move equipment and other objects

Maintenance and upkeep of barns and farm buildings:

  • Clear away animal waste and keep the barns clean
  • General maintenance, painting, cleaning, upkeep, and remodeling of animal facilities
  • Ordering supplies as needed

Maintenance and upkeep of pastures, paddocks, and other property:

  • Set up and operate irrigation equipment
  • Seasonal activities include mowing and weeding (slashing and/or spraying), and snow plowing
  • Maintain inventories of materials, equipment, or products

Daily care and husbandry of livestock:

  • Purchase animal stock and food
  • Keep the animals fed, healthy, clean, and groomed
  • Herd cattle in the pastures
  • Store quality straw and hay
  • Feed livestock and clean and disinfect their pens, cages, yards, and hutches
  • Examine animals to detect symptoms of illnesses or injuries

Personal requirements:

  • Willing to learn new skills and procedures and able to adapt to changes
  • Able to work alone as well as in a team environment
  • Willing to complete tasks regardless of weather conditions
  • Ability to undertake heavy manual labor and able to lift heavy objects
  • Available to work long hours, available weekends, and holidays, and be flexible when asked to arrive early, or stay late, including in emergencies that may occur in this field of work
  • Able to respond quickly to situations
  • Demonstrate high standards of professionalism
  • Act by the farm’s policies and in alignment with the culture

Education:

  • High school or equivalent (Preferred)

Experience:

  • Farming: 2+ years (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • Valid Driver’s License

Background Screening:

  • Must successfully pass a full credit/criminal/employment background check.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,000.00 – $45,000.00 per year
