Kent Nutrition Group (KNG), a member of the KENT® Corporation family of companies has an exciting opportunity to join their team as a General Farm Hand. The KNG Research Farm is the heart of our product research and the foundation for developing new KENT and Blue Seal product formulations in a practical, real-world setting. At this facility, feeding trials are conducted to evaluate feed ingredients and new feed formulations to improve efficiency and gain while supporting overall animal health. The General Farm Hand is responsible for all aspects of general livestock and crop production related to feeding, animal health, record keeping, following trial protocol, pasture maintenance, crop production, building and equipment maintenance.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Feeding, raising, and providing health care to all livestock on the Research Farm.
Maintain accurate records pertaining to livestock research as designated by the KNG Nutritionist.
Follow all Pork Quality Assurance (PQA) standards for swine production and be registered as a PQA provider.
Supervise, maintain, and practice a herd health program with the assistance of the consulting veterinarian and Farm Supervisor. Assist in allotting and weighing of all livestock.
Repair equipment when it breaks down and perform routine maintenance to identify problems before they escalate.
Maintain and repair all farm buildings and equipment associated with the KNG Research Farm.
Safely operate several different types of machinery, heavy equipment including tractors to fulfill responsibilities of the position.
Maintain and repair fences.
Clean housing areas of animals once a week or more frequently if a certain area becomes uninhabitable.
Perform general labor duties as needed and assist in all areas of crop production.
Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:
High School graduate or higher preferred
Education in Ag related classes
Ag/livestock background
Mechanical aptitude
Strong organizational skills
Ability to work cross-functionally with other all departments
Ability to work under tight deadlines
High level of accuracy and careful attention to detail
Good oral and written communication skills
Must have a valid drivers license, CDL a plus
EXPERIENCE:
Computer knowledge and basic skills in Microsoft office
Experience operating farm machinery
Welding
OTHER:
Farm hand work can be physically demanding. Majority of the time is working outdoors. Must be available after scheduled working hours and days as needed. Regular and timely attendance is required. During calving and/or harvesting time farm hands may be required to work long and irregular hours. Hours will also vary based on other duties as assigned and changing Research Farm demands.
