The Role
Farm hand assists the veterinary techs with animal handling, facility maintenance, and care. The farm hand sorts cattle brings them in the pins, and assures our vet technician safety when handling and training cattle. They are observant of their surroundings and to the needs of the cattle, facility, and technicians.
Responsibilities
- Aid in bringing/turning out cattle in and out of the pasture; should be able to sort cattle quickly.
- Able to place halters on cattle and assist in head placement as determined by the techs.
- Food and water are kept in front of animals for comfort.
- Keep farm and animal areas clean and safe for daily operations.
- The facility is properly maintained and kept clean.
- All equipment, buildings, and pens are kept clean and tidy.
- Maintain facility, up to basic ground maintenance, and repairs.
Requirements
- Enjoys working in a team-oriented environment is essential, as this person will work closely with other team members.
- 5+ years experience with cattle must be able to physically work with cows.
- Welding, construction, or trade skills are heavily preferred, but not required.
- Good problem-solving skills and self-starter.
- Strong sense of self-awareness including awareness of the surrounding environment, with co-workers and cattle.
- Ability to do physical work related to various maintenance and fieldwork activities including lifting and carrying tools and heavy (60-80 pounds) field equipment.
- Facility management or experience with property management.
- Willingness to work in all kinds of weather conditions, and strenuous conditions.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the visiting public, farmers, technicians, and others.
Additional Details
- Typical work week: Monday through Friday 6:30 am- 3:30 pm.
- The work environment is onsite at the farm location.
- Flexible schedule while working an expected 40+ hours/week.
- Based in San Jacinto Valley
