Job Description
The mission of the Commercial Vegetable Research and Extension program at Washington State University is to improve the profitability and sustainability of vegetable crop farms in the Columbia Basin of Washington State. We do this by providing research based information to farms aimed at helping them increase productivity by improved pest management and agronomic practices.
The Research Farm Manager position is key to the success of the Commercial Vegetable Research and Extension program and facilitates the completion of applied research projects under the direction of the principal investigator while working as a collaborative team with several experienced technicians and other scientists across the institution.
Other duties will include, operating farm and field equipment for the Regional Vegetable program. Maintenance of equipment and performing a variety of skilled duties such as planting, care, and harvesting of crops. Application of crop protection materials. Plant, fertilize, irrigate and record information to produce and process seeds and crops.
Required Qualifications:
Three years of experience in farm work or maintaining livestock, at least six months must include experience directing the work of others; OR equivalent education/experience.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within targeted counties.
- While using a private or WSU-owned vehicle for official business, must have current automobile liability insurance (meeting the requirements described in RCW 46.30.020and RCW 46.29.090).
- Ability to work a flexible, yet structured schedule with occasional night and weekend shifts to meet the needs of program partners and grant requirements.
- Employment is contingent upon passing a background screening.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact effectively, with persons of varying levels of responsibility and experience, both orally and in writing.
- Experience in higher education, local or state agency, or equivalent.

Monthly Salary: Range 33, $3,096.00 – $4,117.00 A-M
Successful candidates typically begin at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28 OR applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
