Job description
Position involves equestrian and land management skills with additional personal skills.
The following is a description of requirements that are included but not limited to:
EQUESTRIAN MANAGEMENT
Walking horses in and out as needed from paddocks, grooming horses, tacking up horse(s) according to riding schedule, rinsing and bathing of horses as needed, wiping down tack after each ride, meeting with vet at the request of owner, holding horses for farrier, calling farrier, as needed, and meeting them at the appointed time, feeding horses according to schedule and giving supplements and medications as directed, giving hay as instructed, muck and bed stalls as needed, checking the calendar daily for messages and/or schedule changes, checking waterers in stalls and fields to insure good working order and cleanliness, cleaning waterers in stalls weekly and in fields as needed, keeping feed in stock, notifying owner to any problems or observations. All requests from owner are included as general care and maintenance.
MAINTENANCE OF FOWL, CATS AND HAY BARN
Twice daily feeding and watering of cats. Daily feeding, watering and collection of eggs from chickens. Cleaning and bedding of chicken nesting boxes twice weekly. Chicken run is to be maintained by mowing and clipping as needed. Notification to owners of any problems or observations.
LAND MANAGEMENT
Bush hogging fields as needed, cutting hay two seasons, bailing and storing hay in hay barn, dragging ring, paddocks and driveway as necessary.
PROPERTY AND FACILITY MANAGEMENT
Mowing and edging and weed whacking of all lawns and fence lines on two properties. Cleaning and maintenance and farm equipment such as mower, tractor, bailer, golf carts and other farm equipment and minor equipment (i.e., chainsaws, leaf blowers, etc.). Maintenance and cleaning of all out-buildings, workshops, fences, etc. Clean pond irrigation filter weekly. General pond maintenance. Snow removal as needed. Carpentry and electrical skills are a plus.
GENERAL REQUESTS AND ADDITIONS TO POSITION
Applicant must have a valid driver’s license and their own vehicle at all times during employment. Must be available to taxi owner and family members to appointments, must work well with other employees of the property (i.e. gardeners, housekeepers, nurses, etc.) Arrange bids and services with subcontractors after discussion with property owners with things such as tree removal, major equipment repairs, etc. No subcontractor may be hired without prior consent from owner.
EXTRACURRICULUM
The above outlined position is as required a 40 hour, 5 day work week. On occasion, applicant will be asked to care for animals and farm when owners are out of town which will be compensated as agreed upon.
