Job Description

The Sow Farm and Truckwash Manager contributes to our mission by providing leadership and direction for barn employees, providing care for pigs, and producing quality genetics right in our rural community that feeds the world.

As a Sow Farm and Truckwash Manager, the expectations are as follows:

Responsible for a 1200 head batch farrow site, gilt isolation, and internal Truckwash
Provides a quality product to the farm’s customers that promotes genetic progress by maximizing production efficiencies while adhering to polices related to genetic data collection protocol
Responsible for financial success of farm- overseeing payroll, supplies, maintenance/repair budgets, and production reports
Participates in monthly account team meeting with swine management team
Ensures operational aspects of farm are taken care of appropriately including making sure equipment is functioning properly, feed systems and feed quality are monitored, and maintenance and repairs are completed
Develop staff to reach their fullest potential, train staff in various areas of the farm, completes onboarding with employees, and delegates work assignments to ensure farm is run to the best of its ability
Ensures that all policies and procedures set forth by Waukon Feed Ranch and Topigs Norsvin are followed
Communicates with Waukon Feed Ranch and Topigs Norsvin representatives in a professional manner
Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner with both livestock and employees
Balances team and individual responsibilities, puts success of the team above own interests and supports everyone’s efforts to succeed
Manage, coach, and mentor staff and ensure an inclusive, positive work environment is maintained at all times
Approaches others in a tactful manner, reacts professionally in pressure situations, treats others with respect and consideration; Communicates with Waukon Feed Ranch and Topigs Norsvin representatives in a professional manner
Establishes and maintains open communication with all farm staff, management, external customers and suppliers, and HR management
Ensure team follows all biosecurity, animal welfare and environmental policies
Utilizes data systems including but not limited to: PigKnows, Ingris, Farmwise and completes all paperwork required for a genetic nucleus site (feed orders, HR requirements, data recording, and technical and production reports).
Understands business implications of decisions and contributes to profits/revenue of the farm
Serves as supervisor of farm staff
Serves as supervisor for Truckwash personnel and completes inspections of the facility Works with integrity, ethically, promotes a harassment-free work environment, observes safety and security procedures
