The farm Manager position at Mountain View Farm is one of agri-tourism. The successful candidate will be responsible for the daily operations of the resort?s farm Department. Maintain a resort presence and leadership skills to ensure the highest quality service to resort guests. Reports to the General Manager.
We are a fiber farm?raising llamas, alpacas, goats, sheep, and rabbits for their fiber, to be turned into yarn, which we sell to our guests. We also raise ducks and chickens to provide eggs for breakfast, as well as grow some fruits and vegetables for our chef?s creations.
What you will do (includes but not limited to):
Hire and train Team Members; ensure all Team Members follow policies/procedures. Provide motivation and inspiration to achieve results, recognize strengths, and develop weaknesses. Use redirection as teachable moments and active learning opportunities. Arrange ongoing Team Member training/development. Encourage and motivate the Team to encourage participation and promote resort services and products. Learn and maintain knowledge of resort software. Monitor team schedules and make necessary adjustments. Oversee and inspect areas for cleanliness and proper operation; institute systems that will improve guest satisfaction. Assist with controlling labor and inventory costs. Ensure accurate inventory control including the security of stock. Assist with the creation and promotion of Farm Activities to stimulate guest interest and participation. Assist with the development and maintenance of Activities, literature, documentation, and process handling requirements. Ensure superior guest satisfaction, when necessary, provide complaint resolution. Ensure all Activities? equipment is in working order, ensure ongoing maintenance, and that repairs are made promptly. Guide Team Members as to how to recognize, anticipate, and identify guests’ needs to avoid potential challenges. Provide open communication at all times. Exhibit a professional attitude, diplomacy, and ability to address difficult situations. Hold yourself to a higher standard and be a role model at all times.
The Farm Manager position has two parts. First is to lead your team to take excellent care of our animals and the farm itself. Secondly, which is of equal importance, is to entertain and educate our resort guests. The Farm team leads tours & educational talks, helps process our fiber, teaches fiber workshops, feeds and cares for the animals, does daily barn cleaning chores, cares for the medical needs of the animals, and maintains the gardens, ?all while being friendly and welcoming to our resort guests.
Skills and abilities include having the ability to provide clear direction, communication, mature judgment, and maintaining composure in a hectic environment.
The minimum education required is a high school diploma/GED, some college preferred.
The minimum experience required is 4 years of resort/event/guest relations experience.
Physical elements require the ability to lift and transport 50 pounds daily, work in
extreme weather conditions, safely use farm equipment, regularly walk to and from the resort
the main building, and adapt to barn noise levels, dust & odors.
Experience with the care of llamas, alpacas, sheep, goats, rabbits, ducks & chickens is a plus.
A compassionate attitude to farm animals is a must.
This position requires year-round consistent and reliable attendance and transportation in all weather conditions, as the animals depend on us for their care.
