Farm Manager Trainee
Job Overview:
As a Farm Manager Trainee, you will undergo comprehensive training to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to manage and oversee the growth of row crops (potatoes, garlic, carrots, onions). You will work closely with experienced farm managers to learn about potato cultivation, crop management, and farm administration. This position serves as a steppingstone toward becoming a proficient Farm Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
Crop Management:

Assist in planting, cultivating, and harvesting potato crops.
Learn and implement proper irrigation, fertilization, and pest control techniques.
Monitor crop health and make recommendations for adjustments as needed.

Equipment Operation:

Learn to operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment, including tractors, plows, and harvesters.
Ensure that all equipment is in good working condition and report any issues to superiors.

Soil Management:

Participate in soil testing and analysis to determine nutrient levels and soil health.
Assist in soil preparation and management, including tilling and fertilization.

Pest and Disease Management:

Identify common pests and diseases.
Oversee the chemical sprayers that are maintained on the farm and the operators to assure they are doing the job correctly and within drift guidelines.
Learn and apply integrated pest management techniques to protect crops.

Record Keeping:

Maintain accurate records of planting, harvesting, and crop yields.
Assist in inventory management for seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides.

Farm Infrastructure:

Assist in the maintenance and repair of farm buildings, fences, and irrigation systems.
Learn about the efficient use of resources to maximize farm productivity.

Safety and Compliance:

Follow safety protocols and ensure that all farm operations are carried out in compliance with regulations.
Participate in safety training sessions.

Qualifications:

Agricultural experience with a demonstrated ability, knowledge, and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
Spanish speaking required.
Ability to operate light to heavy agricultural equipment; sprayers set up, planters, harvesters, JD Link trouble shooting, and equipment trouble shooting.
Ability to read, write, and speak English; perform basic mathematic calculations.
Demonstrate ability and experience in operating tractors with attached, towed, or specialized equipment, self-propelled spray rigs, planters, bed shapers, cultivators, chemical incorporators, harvesters, and various planters preferred.
Ability to pass a respirator fit test and ability to wear and use air purifying respirator during chemical applications when required by law.
Demonstrated ability to organize daily workloads and communicate with staff and understanding basic field objectives when performing work.
Ability and experience to work in an outdoor environment during inclement weather and temperature extremes, daily movement of material weighing up to 40 lbs.
Willingness to work long hours, including weekends and holidays during peak seasons.

Training Duration:
The duration of the training program may vary depending on the farm’s specific requirements. Typically, it can range from six months to two years.

Upon successful completion of the training program, the Farm Manager Trainee can progress to the role of Farm Manager, assuming full responsibility for farm operations, or take on specialized roles within the company.
