Job Description

The Farm Market Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of a farm market or farm stand. This includes overseeing the sales of produce, baked goods, managing inventory, supervising staff, and ensuring customer satisfaction.

Holmberg Orchard is a fourth-generation, family-owned farm in southeast Connecticut. We grow over fifty acres of fruits, berries and vegetables; operate a year-round farm market and bakery; produce and sell hard cider and wines; and operate a seasonal pick-your-own operation at our farm.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Manage the sales of produce, baked goods, prepared foods and other items at the farm market
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies to attract customers and increase sales
  • Manage inventory levels to ensure that the market is adequately stocked with fresh produce and other goods
  • Coordinate with the farm owner/operator to determine which crops will be sold and when they will be available
  • Hire, train, and supervise staff to ensure excellent customer service and efficient operations
  • Oversee the maintenance of the market, including cleaning, organizing, and merchandising
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and all applicable laws and regulations
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local suppliers and vendors
  • Analyze sales data to identify trends and make adjustments to inventory and marketing strategies as needed
  • Manage financial operations, including cash handling, accounting, and reporting

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, agriculture, or a related field preferred
  • Experience in retail or customer service management
  • Knowledge of agricultural practices and products preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage staff and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and point-of-sale software

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 – $32.00 per hour
