About us:
LB Porteus Farms is a multi-generational family operated farm consisting of cattle, hog and crop enterprises. This operation raises corn, soybeans and hay in SE Coshocton County utilizing no till practices and variable rate technologies, has a herd of 250 commercial Angus cows, and includes a new, technology enabled, 900 head monoslope slatted floor feeding facility to retain ownership of calves for value added marketing opportunities, and custom feeds. Additionally, the farm operates two contract wean to finish hog barns, feeding hogs for a local family swine integrator.
About the role:
The Farm Operations Associate position is an essential contributor to the daily operations of LB Porteus Farms. This person’s main focus will be on the daily care of the cattle and hogs including maintaining the buildings and equipment, while assisting in the crop enterprises as needed. The associate will report to and work with the Farm Manager daily. This position is a key contributor to the success of the operation, ensuring the livestock are properly cared for, and that the business is optimizing the facilities and resources available.
Responsibilities:
- Daily Livestock Care and related Vaccinating, Loading, Hauling
- Livestock Facility Cleaning, Care and Maintenance
- Equipment Operation, Maintenance, Lubrication and Cleaning
- Property, Pasture and Fence Management and Maintenance
- Assists in areas of general farm labor where needed
Candidate requirements / valuable skills:
- Experience with livestock, and operating/maintaining equipment
- Ability to carry out directions diligently – working alone or with others
- Willingness to ask questions when unsure prior to starting a task
- Willingness to provide prompt feedback of your activities and the outcome of assigned tasks and responsibilities
- Willingness to work with others, and receive constructive feedback
- Ability to work outdoors and adapt to changing work conditions
- Common sense and desire to learn
