Job Description
Farm Operations Supervisor
This position is ideal for a versatile individual who enjoys engaging in a wide variety of tasks and embracing the seasonality of a grain farm. During the operations season, which lasts approximately 14 weeks/year (2 weeks planting, 6 weeks spraying, 6 weeks of harvest), youll work as a Tier 1 Operator alongside other team members. When the operations season ends, youll transition to the role of Operations Supervisor.
In this role, youll be responsible for maintaining the farms resources, including personnel, tools, farm supplies and the shop, to ensure high levels of efficiency and success. In the shop, youll lead a team, oversee the maintenance of the fleet of equipment, order parts and supplies, and assure shop organization and cleanliness.
Beyond the shop, you’ll provide guidance and instruction, and organize parts and material for the operational group for the non-operations season. Youll focus on team development through training and coaching and serve as their initial point of contact for conflict resolution.

What youll do
Repairs and Maintenance:
? Schedule work assignments, set priorities and direct the work of subordinate employees
? Work with the team to recommend replacements, updates and adjustments to the farm fleet
? Develop and maintain preventative maintenance schedules for the fleet
? Manage maintenance and repair records
? Maintain an inventory of fleet supplies and parts
? Determine/procure parts and equipment to complete repairs and maintenance
? Keep the Operations Manager informed of the readiness of the fleet
Shop Upkeep:
? Use the 5S framework for organizing, cleaning, developing and sustaining a productive work environment for the benefit of employees and the company
? Procure, maintain and organize all tools (including mechanical and farm tools)
? Manage inventory and organizing of farm supplies
? Develop and maintain shop procedures and policies
? Provide input to improve shop efficiency
Beyond the Shop:
? Schedule work assignments
? Procure materials and equipment to complete repairs and maintenance
? Inspect work, holding team accountable to farm standards
Safety:
? Practice safe work habits and use personal protective equipment as required
? Routinely inspect all shop equipment and work areas to maintain a safe environment
? Monitor standard operational and working practices to assure compliance with company safety standards
Grain Operations:
? Participate in tier 1 field operations, including planting, spraying and harvesting to maximize accuracy, efficiency and safety
Team Lead:
? Manage daily activities of the team during non-operations season
? Motivate team members to achieve organizational goals
? Conduct training sessions to enhance the teams skills and knowledge, empowering them to boost their confidence and maximize their potential
? Collaborate with other managers to conduct performance reviews
Other:
? Be available for after-hours emergency calls and respond as needed
? Assist in the development of an annual budget for areas of responsibility
? Help recruit, screen, train and evaluate employees
? Develop and maintain good relationships with outside vendors
? Be willing to perform any task assigned to subordinate staff
Requirements
Skills:
? Knowledge of the organization and operations of a job shop
? Ability to supervise, coach and discipline subordinates
? Knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools and equipment used in the repair and fabrication of heavy equipment
? Ability to read diagrams, schematics and reference manuals
? Demonstrated success in improving efficiency or productivity in previous supervisory roles
? Knowledge of safety equipment and procedures associated with heavy equipment and shop work
? Assume responsibility for decisions, consequences and results that have an impact on people, costs and/or quality of service within the functional area
? Strong communications skills, conveying non-routine information effectively and with tact and persuasion, both verbally and in writing
Education:
High school diploma or GED (Required)
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years related experience:
? Managing a team on a daily basis (Required)
? Mechanical skills (Required)
? Organizing and managing job shop operations (Required)
? Basic construction, plumbing and electrical experience (Required)
? Fabricating experience (Preferred)
Certification(s) and License(s):
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) (Preferred)*
Commercial Pesticide Applicators license (Preferred)*

Working Conditions:

? Work may involve operating around moving objects, fumes, solvents, grease and oil

Compensation and Benefits
? $65,000/yr -$95,000/yr based on experience
? Benefits include health care, production bonus, year-end bonus, paid time off, retirement match and personal use of shop facilities
