Summary:
Leading a farm & ranch land maintenance team with day-to-day care of PBPN land. Oversee mechanical operations for hauling/handling/spraying water and pesticides, grain & seeds, chemicals & fertilizer, and soil/rock/gravel, as well as for the many special operations involved in building/repairing structures, excavating/dirt work, and building/repairing ponds and terraces, and prescribed burning. Oversight for crops/harvesting and ground care, tree and brush maintenance and fencing. Assists in oversight for livestock maintenance and care as well. Assists and supports lease auction events. Assists Director in monitoring and ensuring the Nation follows USDA, BIA, FSA, & NRCS requirements. As foreman you would report to the Director of Land Management and oversee a team of Farm & Ranch Workers, which may include but is not limited to assigning and reviewing work, instructing, training, coaching, mentoring, scheduling, assisting with performance reviews, and timekeeping.
Minimum Requirements:
Experience:
MINIMUM: 10+ years in farming/ranching and agriculture, with at least 5 recent years of operating updated land/agricultural and farming equipment including but not limited to computerized and laser technology. Must have a valid Kansas CDL- Class A Combination driver’s license and must be insurable with the Nation’s insurance. A record of satisfactory attendance and performance in all prior and current employment.
PREFERRED: 15+ years of experience in farming/ranching and agriculture, with at least 6+ recent years of heavy equipment operation (i.e., forklift, mini excavator, bulldozer, tractors, sprayers, combines, etc.) and operation of updated land/agricultural and farming equipment including but not limited to computerized and laser technology. 10+ years’ experience with prescribed burning.
Education: High School Diploma or GED
Interpersonal Skills: Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essentials elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the PBPN for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.
Knowledge:
- Farming/Ranching: Extensive knowledge of materials, methods, and heavy equipment involved in the maintenance of land maintenance and large undomesticated animals.
- Extensive knowledge/understanding of horticulture, agriculture and land maintenance. Basic fire knowledge for land burning.
- Public Safety & Security: Knowledge of occupational safety, policies, and procedures, when engaging with hazardous materials and large unpredictable animals promoting a safety culture within the Nation.
- Land Surveying: Knowledge/understanding of land surveying, leveling, and the equipment used to complete this including but not limited to reading grade.
- Mechanical & Mathematical: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Basic knowledge of mathematics and simple formulas.
- Chemistry: Basic knowledge of chemicals.
- English Grammar: Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar, with the ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
Skills:
- Operational Skills: Controlling operations of updated land/agricultural equipment or systems (i.e. computerized monitors for haying equipment, laser equipment for reading grade, etc.). Monitoring equipment use and troubleshooting issues. Watching and reading gauges and monitors, dials, GPS, or indicators to ensure a machine or piece of equipment is working properly.
- Leadership Skills: Motivating, guiding, coaching and mentoring a team.
- Interpersonal skills: Remains open to others’ ideas and exhibits a willingness to try new processes. Dependable-arrive to work on time, follows instructions, responds positively to direction and feedback.
- Organized: Uses time efficiently and develops realistic action plans for assigned work orders. Accurate, thorough and monitors own work for quality and meets deadlines for all assignments with little to no errors.

Abilities:
- Must be available to work the assigned schedule and available as needed to work a flexible schedule to meet the demands of the position, which may include nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
