US – Kansas – Garnett
Hours: 6:00am – 2:30pm
Compensation: $18.00/hr
Discover Impactful Work:
As a Farm Technician you are responsible for bleeding, caring for, and maintaining the sheep on the site. Blood is routinely drawn from the sheep to be utilized in testing processes for Thermofisher equipment. In addition, you will maintain related farm property, equipment, and facilities.
A Day in the Life:
- Feed animals daily and providing routine care.
- Draw blood from animals as needed.
- Set up equipment needed for bleeding.
- Cleaning blood drawing areas of operation for safe practices.
- Help with general farm upkeep of fence lines, drainage ditches and lawn.
- Provide repairs of house and farms buildings.
- Provide basic feed and upkeep for animals on a weekend rotation basis.
- Assist coworkers with animals and minor electrical repairs as assigned or needed.
- Push and move animals into bleeding chutes.
- Operate company vehicles and machinery such as tractors, truck and loader.
- Provide plumbing repairs to water feed system.
- Use hand-held machinery, such as grinder, drill and weed eater for routine farm upkeep.
- Listen to and follow written and verbal instructions given in the English language.
- Report any actual or potential safety hazards to the Supervisor, Human Resources, Safety Specialist or Senior Management.
Keys to Success:
Education
- Possess high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Possess basic knowledge of English, math and the ability to read.
Experience
- Possess good mechanical aptitude.
- Basic exposure to hand tools and equipment from a farming environment.
- Ability to work from verbal instructions.
- Push and move animals into bleeding chutes.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Lift up to 25 pounds.
- Walk approximately up to 2 hours a day.
- Providing animal maintenance ranging from hooves, horns, hair, living quarters, and more.
- Administering inoculations to animals as needed
