Job Description

Concordia Charter School is dedicated to providing families witha choice for high-quality educational opportunities in a safe, harmonious learning environment. We are committed to addressing the learning strengths and needs of each child through small class sizes (max. 18), caring and highly qualified teachers, and daily individualized academic interventions.

In addition, we approach nutrition and wellness with innovative and whole-child approaches that include healthy and fresh meals that feature locally produced foods, and garden/food education experiences.

We seek a Farm to School Program Coordinator who will be responsible for:

  • USDA Implementation grant project management/implementation, including:
  • School Garden Classroom management and upkeep (regular maintenance tasks, planting planning in coordination with Nutrition Manager, purchasing and budget management, etc.)
  • Age-appropriate Garden/Agriculture lessons on a weekly basis for each grade
  • Food education in the Child Nutrition and FFVP programs, in collaboration with the Nutrition Manager
  • Farmraiser program management and implementation
  • Outreach events (Spring Garden Fair and Fall Farm-to-School Family Night)
  • Nutrition & Wellness promotion (bulletin boards, social media & website content, communication with staff, etc.)
  • Local food procurement and planning support, in coordination with Nutrition Manager and Director
  • Leadership of School Garden Committee
  • Cafeteria compost & food waste programs
  • Classroom curriculum coordination as applicable
  • Partnership management, including but not limited to:
  • Blue Watermelon Project CITG & Feeding the Future
  • BWP Grant Chicken Coop Project
  • Feed, Support, Grow Mesa Committee & Public Transit Project Steering Committee (Pinnacle Prevention)
  • Sun Produce Cooperative
  • Arizona Farm to School Network, National Farm to School Network, and other applicable networks participation
  • Tiger Mountain Foundation (cafeteria compost program)
  • Family Resource Center (community outreach, parenting resources, cooking classes)
  • Grant writing, implementation, budget oversight, and reporting for current and new projects related to Farm-to-School
  • Support of Local Wellness Policy implementation tasks and participation in the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) in coordination with the Nutrition Manager
  • Participation in school staff meetings, Family Nights, in-service workdays, etc. as applicable
  • Training and professional development activities as applicable

Knowledge, Skills, Characteristics:

  • Ability to speak, read, and write English
  • Ability to perform basic math functions
  • Basic computer skills (email, internet, MS Office, Zoom/MS Teams)
  • Ability to effectively multitask, receive direction, and manage time
  • Experience with gardening
  • Experience with garden, agriculture, and nutrition education
  • Passion for community wellness
  • Ability to obtain Fingerprint clearance card
  • Preferred experience with farm to school programming and partnership development
  • Preferred bi-lingual (English/Spanish)

Working Conditions:

  • Extended periods of standing, walking, and physical gardening tasks
  • Extended periods of time spent outdoors in all seasonal weather

The Farm to School Program Coordinator will work under the supervision of the Director. Salary DOE.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,000.00 – $50,000.00 per year
