Job Description

Job Objective

To collect representative samples of grain while keeping very detailed work records.

NDGI’s Grain Sampler position entails going out to elevator sites throughout Southern Illinois & St. Louis river front. Samplers will obtain representative samples of grain, while maintaining accurate work records by writing down the carrier ID’s and various quality measures. We strive to promote our sampler into an inspector role, which also comes with a higher hourly rate! So if you are interested in moving up, please ask about that in the interview!

Hours are variable and there is not a limit on the amount of overtime that can be made. Starting wage is $18 per hour. Hours worked on Saturday are paid at time and a half & hours worked on Sunday are paid double time.

Responsibilities and Duties

Collect representative samples following specific procedures

Maintain accurate work records with legible handwriting

Qualifications and Skills

Ability to bend/lift over 50 lbs.

Be able to move through the entirety of the shift

Work may be 12+ hour shifts

Feel comfortable on top of railcars & barges

Work variable hours and shifts

Be able to physically handle working in grain dust environments

Be able to work sometimes 60+ hours per week during harvest

No experience required

Benefits are available after 4 months of working. At your 4 month mark, we measure how many hours you worked. If you averaged 130+ hours per month in your first 4 months of employment, you will be eligible for benefits. Benefits include:
