OBJECTIVE
The Department Manager is responsible for the quality and appearance of related products, merchandise, and display appearance in accordance with company standards. The continual evaluation of inventory is required to make informed product order recommendations to the General Manager. The Department Manager will also be responsible in coordinating staffing needs with the Operations Manager in order to effectively and efficiently receive trucks.

Coordinate staffing and inventory needs with Operations Manager to efficiently and effectively receive product, execute displays and conduct floor moves related to the department
Build employee and customer relationships through routine interactions and the transfer of department specific product knowledge and usage to answer questions and inquires
Maintain the health, vitality and appearance of all department inventory in accordance with company standards
Maintain and communicate all administrative tasks and documentation related to department needs including seasonal staffing needs, signed product orders, invoices and all other documents needed by the Inventory Control Associate
Routinely communicate department trends and recommendations to the General Manager to help make informed purchase orders
Utilize the point of sale (POS) system to accurately review inventory levels and complete purchase orders in support of the General Manager as needed
Effectively utilize the space of the department to produce improved displays and make recommended floor moves and product placement ideas to the GM, Operations Manager and company Buyers
Develop effective floor plans and layouts based on seasonal trends, reviewing plan documents with the GM and Operations manager in preparation for seasonal changes in product lines and weekly promotions
Support associates in the movement of department specific inventory through the unloading of trucks
Assist other Department Managers with special tasks and functions as directed by store management

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 3 years of progressive responsibility in retail store operations required. Associates degree or higher in horticulture, agriculture management or other related field and 2+ years’ experience working experience in the horticultural or garden center preferred. Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to hold self and others accountable for high-quality, timely and effective results. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Outlook.
