Weyerhaeuser’s Lower Columbia Region is searching for a Harvest Manager to join our Cathlamet team in our Longview, WA Timberlands office. As a Harvest Manager, you will be responsible for leading the contract harvesting operations, including the management of safety, environmental stewardship, quality, production and costs. You will play a key role in the sequencing of harvest units through coordination of road construction, cutting, logging, transportation, marketing and logging clean up. Your coordination with all other forest management operations is also imperative to the success of the business.
This is a Full Time, exempt position, reporting to the Area Manager with salary level dependent on skills and experience.

Key Functions

Demonstrate, role model, and coordinate training on company safety policies and safe work practices
Apply laws and safety regulations to active operations and address safety issues appropriately (unsafe acts, PPE, etc.)
Conduct incident investigations and apply critical thinking to correctly identify root cause and appropriate corrective action to prevent reoccurrence
Ensure compliance with state and federal safety statutes, environmental requirements and Weyerhaeuser resource and stewardship goals
Train contractors on the SFI standards and audit for conformance, correcting as necessary
Estimate volumes, piece size, and determine feasibility of harvesting specific timber types
Achieve high utilization rate for systems and equipment by advanced application of various harvesting systems, as applied to topography and timber type
Evaluate harvest system capabilities and limitations, and have advanced knowledge of skyline mechanics and payload limits
Manage felled and bucked inventory, and monitor and direct daily cutting activities
Develop logging price and production plans by unit, daily and long-term tracking, and evaluation of harvesting performance
Contribute input to annual harvest plan through identifying, prioritizing and scheduling future harvest units to meet operating area volume targets
Perform cost analysis on individual machines, classifications and systems
Apply leadership skills in working with and managing contractors/owners to ensure that Weyerhaeuser’s expectations are being met

Qualifications

Bachelors degree (or higher) in relevant field OR 5 years of forestry, engineering, and/or harvesting experience
At least five years of leadership experience in the logging industry
Highly motivated, self-directed team player
Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills
Strong analytical skills with experience in use of personal computers and related software applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Geographical Information Systems)
Current driver’s license is required, as work involves driving company vehicles
Willing to spend the majority of work time in the field, on steep or broken ground covered with slash and brush
Willing and able to work the hours applicable to the job, which includes early morning and occasional weekends
Pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen

Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $77K – $115K based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 7% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

Retirement: Employees are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan, which includes a paid company match in addition to our annual contribution equal to 5% of your base salary.
Paid Time Off or Vacation: We provide eligible employees who are scheduled to work 25 hours or more per week with 3-weeks of paid vacation to use during your first year of employment. In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use. We also recognize eleven paid holidays per year, providing a total of 88 holiday hours
