Job/Department Summary:
Under the immediate supervision of the Farm Director, the Livestock Technician I is responsible for performing the daily activities involving the care, feeding, breeding, and milking of livestock in the livestock program. Livestock Technician I personally performs all work of a livestock program and may supervise students in the performance of such work and on occasion assists the faculty in setting up laboratory classes. Livestock Technician I is responsible for performing the daily activities involving the care, feeding, breeding, and milking of livestock. Responsibilities include livestock production (breeding, birth and growth), animal nutrition, assisting with planning and inventory management, as well as community interaction. Livestock Technician I assists with parturition; effect feed trial and general feeding and other experiments and operates mechanical milking and other dairy equipment. May be called upon to maintain or assist with milk production, breeding livestock inventory, and other records required in the operation of the program. Incumbents may assist laboratory instructors with setting up of livestock laboratory classes.
Required Education and Experience:
Equivalent to 60 semester or 90 quarter units of academic work at a four-year college of university, with courses in animal husbandry, livestock management, and related animal science subjects. (Additional specialized experience which has demonstrated that the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on the basis of one year of experience for each 30 semester of 45 quarter units of accredited college work completed).
AND
Equivalent to one year of experience in the care, feeding, and breeding of livestock.
Preferences:
Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills:
- Bilingual.
- Bachelor of Science in Animal Science or related field.
- Proficient with the use of computers.
Time Base: Full-time
Pay Plan: 12/12
Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm, Summer: Mon-Thurs 7:00am-5:30pm.
CSU Classification Salary Range: $42,060 – $74,652 per year.
