Organic Farm Team in Albion, ME

Ironwood Farm

Job Description

Ironwood Farm is looking for a couple great folks to join our farm team for the 2023 growing season. This job will encompass all the varied tasks required to grow organic produce. Greenhouse work, soil prep, planting, harvest, wash/packing, general farm maintenance and infrastructure projects. We are a horse, human, and tractor powered vegetable farm in the hills of central Maine. With the help of our draft horses, fabulous staff, and enthusiastic farm dog–we grow eight acres of MOFGA Certified Organic vegetables that we sell to coops and small grocery stores across the state. While we take particular joy growing salad, our diverse offerings allow us to have produce for sale winter, spring, summer and fall.

This job would start sometime in April and run through November. Potential for 4 season employment if it’s a good fit for all. Applicants who have commercial vegetable experience are strongly preferred, but it isn’t required. This is physical work, and applicants should be confident that they’ll be able to lift, bend, and stand all day.

We are a small but mighty crew of highly motivated, ambitious farmers– we all, including the owners, work hands on in the operation daily. Individual’s positions are designed to give a more in-depth farming experience than your average farm job, spread out the day-to-day responsibilities of the running the farm, and create jobs with lots of room for folks to grow as farmers. Our week’s are highly scheduled, with lots of predictability that allows staff to step into independent roles quickly. There is lots of opportunity for individuals who’ve spent time working on other farms to step into leadership roles here, and be compensated as such.

As farmers, we take great pride in the quality of our produce, and the care we take of our land, animals and employees. We aim to create an efficient, productive and fun environment for our crew to work and grow. If you love working hard, have significant vegetable experience, enjoy being on an efficient and skilled crew, and also having time to enjoy your non-farm life—this might be the farm for you!

PLEASE NOTE: Applications without a cover letter will not be considered. Please describe why you are interested in this job, and why you think you’d be a good fit. Farming experience indicated but not represented on your resume will not be considered as such.
