Preserve Assistant

Essential Functions

General preserve-wide maintenance (e.g. mowing, string trimming, raking, watering, and otherwise maintaining the preserve, including around the Preserve HQ area)
Mowing (e.g. fire break track, research plot and plot boundaries)
Weed control
Prepare for and assist in prescribed burning.
Preserve-wide general and specific monitoring.
Assist Preserve staff as needed.

Work Schedule

Up to 32 hours (equivalent of four, 8 hr. days) per week (0900 – 1700). Specific hours to be determined.

Additional Duties

Weekend Barn check
Assist Preserve staff as needed

Required Qualifications

Able to work outside under Nebraska weather conditions.
Able to drive small farm tractor, or willingness to learn to do so.
Knowledge of mowers and other lawn maintenance equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with herbicide desirable.
Experience with prescribed burning desirable.

Physical Demands

Must be able to work outside with yard and field equipment under summer, fall, and winter conditions.

Work Environment

Mostly involves outdoor work in field (prairie and forest) but some indoor work may also be expected.

Salary

$20/hr
