Production Agronomist in Tipton, IN

Job Description

Total Seed Production is a corn and soybean seed production facility located in Tipton, Indiana. We are currently looking to fill the position of Production Agronomist.

This position will be focused on equipment, technology, and operations and will flex between an office setting and farm operations. Previous experience in seed, agronomy and/or research is beneficial.

Training will be provided, but the candidate must be a quick learner, willing and able to ask questions, work in a fast-paced environment, problem solve, and handle multiple job responsibilities. Excellent communication skills and wiliness to change and grow with the company is important. attention to detail, previous experience with agriculture-related software and or drones. Responsibilities to include:

Duties:

• Analyze planting conditions, equipment technology and emergence of planted crops
• Work within the Fieldview/Climate platform
• Analyze daily planting/application/harvest maps
• Responsible for crop scouting and pest management
• Train and work with production team on best pest management practices
• Ensure all field equipment is calibrated and operating correctly
• Provide daily direction to application team
• Oversee soil testing
• Participate in fertilizer and pesticide recommendations
• Manage Chemical and Fertilizer Inventory
• Lead field tests and trials throughout the growing season
• Evaluate tests and trials to aid in future equipment and agronomic practice decisions
• Gather and submit tissue samples as needed
• Complete data entry through spreadsheets and other documents
• Cultivate relationships with area farmers and vendors
• Participate in collecting yield estimates and pre-harvest moistures
• Learn and understand all seed production related practices
• Guide late season pest management
• Help determine timing of various applications
• Participate in annual field map creation specific to seed production
• Help gather information and monitor specific requirements for field isolation

Skills and Experience Requirements:

• Minimum of 2 years of agronomist or farming experience
• Extensive knowledge of plant and soil science
• Proficient with Microsoft Office
• Able to provide general direction to various team members
• Able to work as part of a team and possess excellent communication/interpersonal skills
• Preferred candidate has CCA, but not required
• Consistent and Reliable in their work
• Flexible and open to the working hours of production agriculture
