Summary:
This is a Full Time position that is responsible for supervision of cattle ranch operations, including the activities of all ranch personnel, as well as the operation and maintenance of all vehicles, machinery, equipment, and facilities. This position also continually monitors, analyzes and oversees day-to-day ranch performance to meet established management objectives.
Responsibilities:
Economically maximizes unit’s contribution to True Ranches overall profitability.
Plans, monitors, analyzes, and evaluates all facets of ranch operations, including irrigation and hay production, in accordance with management directions. Prepares reports and records for management review, including seasonal and monthly inventories of cattle, calving, feed and supplement records.
Projects ranch requirements and discuss with management, makes recommendations, and implements decisions.
Directs and coordinates ranch activities and functions, utilizing knowledge of established policies, procedures, and practices.
Identifies operational problems and advises management of their existence. Works with management to mitigate or eliminate such problems.
Coordinates ranch activities with interrelated activities of other True Ranches’ operations for optimum efficiency and economy. Further, at times provides assistance at other units.
Purchases repair parts and services, and material and supplies as needed and as authorized by management.
Manages housing at the ranch. If any such housing appears to need repairs and/or maintenance, such needs shall be discussed with management.
Care and maintenance of ranch horses.
Safety policy & procedures; conducts safety meetings w/ staff on a regular basis. (No less frequently than monthly)
Must represent the company/ranch within local communities & industry wide, in a positive way.
Hires, places, and supervises unit’s employees.
Works with employees to direct and train as needed.
Recommends employees for transfer, salary adjustments, or promotion as appropriate.
Disciplines and terminates employees if necessary.
Directs personnel from other units temporarily assigned to Foreman’s Unit.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
Qualifications:
Five (5) years of ranch operations experience including two (2) or more years in a supervisory role; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
Extensive experience and solid understanding of animal husbandry, range management, irrigated hay crop production, machinery management and good ranching practices.
Ability to demonstrate leadership and supervisory skills.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
Possession of a valid drivers license with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report (MVR).
Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) certification or willingness to become certified within six (6) months of employment.
English language fluency, verbal and written.
Acceptable results of a pre-employment background check and drug/alcohol test.
