Job Description

The Ranch Hand at our Black Canyon location will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of cattle and hay.

This person will be required to operate farm equipment to plant and harvest hay, irrigate fields including installing and removing irrigation pipe, lift/carry/move pipe, monitor flood irrigation and water supply, operate irrigation pivots, prioritize water use, maintain irrigation equipment, and oversee the operation of irrigation pumps, and turn off irrigation systems.

Duties

  • Maintaining the welfare of herd and horses, i.e., feeding, putting out bales, moving and lifting square bales, checking on cattle daily, etc.
  • Operating farm equipment, fencing repair, welding, etc.
  • Ability to do handy work like carpentry, electrical, welding, and plumbing.
  • Rounding up and moving cattle and taking animals to the vet when needed.
  • Safely operates light vehicles and farm machineries such as pick-up trucks, tractors, riding mowers, plows, mowers, and disc harrows by obeying applicable traffic laws, following operator instructions, and wearing appropriate safety equipment such as goggles, gloves, or other protective clothing.
  • Must be able to perform heavy lifting of hay, feed bags, and equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to listen, understand, and follow directions.
  • Ability to work in a variety of roles.

Education and Experience:

  • Previous experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Job training for this position is provided by a department trainer.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds at times.
  • Manual dexterity as needed to operate a variety of machinery and equipment.

Pay & Benefit Info:

  • Pay range of $16 – $25 per hour.
