Twin Pine Bison Company is seeking a motivated herd manager to assist with the care and welfare of our bison herd in the Wheatland, WY area. This position will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the bison herd, including breeding, health, movement, and culling. Additionally, this position requires occasional assistance with ranch guests and guiding bison hunts. The herd manager will work directly with ranch staff and other partners to accomplish projects and make recommendations about feasibility and implementation.
The ideal candidate will be an outdoors person, able to work in isolation or in a team environment. A herd manager should be prepared to work in a wide range of positions, from managing the bison herd, to researching and implementing strategies to meet company goals.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural/ Animal Science or related field preferred;
- 7+ years experience of related experience with a medium to large herd required;
- 5+ years of direct supervisory/ management experience;
- Experience with Bison and Bison handling strongly preferred;
- Advance knowledge of herd nutrition and how to identify and treat deficiencies preferred required;
- Understanding of herd parasite and disease management required;
- Knowledge of ranch and hunting operations;
- Experience handling bison or cattle;
- Ability to create and deliver compelling guest experiences and provide hospitable customer service;
- Knowledge of hunting and weapons safety;
- Strong mechanical aptitude, experience using power tools and land equipment;
- Possess a valid driver’s license and a good driving record;
- Basic computer skills desired with ability to maintain and access accurate records;
- Must have strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Work to help promote a positive, respectful, energetic, efficient, and motivated team environment.
Essential Functions
- Managing and overseeing the care and welfare of a bison herd;
- Creation and analysis of records, including entry of day to day activities;
- Research and development of low stress bison handling techniques;
- Implementation of herd management goals and objectives with coordination and direction of upper management and ownership;
- Coordination of all day to day activities with vets and other outside consultants;
- Direct supervision of ranch hands and other ranch personnel;
- Operating and maintaining agricultural and construction machinery;
- Building, repairing, and maintaining ranch facilities and property, including fencing and flood irrigation;
- Managing seeding and baling hay;
- General maintenance and repair of Ranch grounds and facilities;
- Work independently as well as with others;
- Follow established safety policies and practices;
- Ability to work weekends and holidays as needed, and other duties as assigned.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Exposure to adverse weather conditions;
- Exposure to various farm animals and wildlife;
- Exposure to various types of machinery noise – some levels are excessive;

- Exposure to heavy vehicle traffic areas;
- Exposure to weapons;
- Vision enough to perform functions such as identifying materials necessary to complete maintenance on equipment and grounds and to operate ranch vehicles and equipment;
- Manual dexterity enough to operate tools, vehicles and equipment;
- Flexibility enough to bend, twist and reach as to load and unload equipment, supplies or tools;
- Ability to move over rough, uneven and rocky surfaces in performance of grounds maintenance;
- Stamina and strength enough to lift and/or move 50 lbs. or more;
- Ability to bend or stoop repeatedly or continuously over extended periods of time.

Pay: $60,000.00 – $80,000.00 per year
