Under general supervision, manage, maintain and conduct field, greenhouse and laboratory experiments as defined by a particular project. Provide supervision and assistance to junior level technicians, graduate and undergraduate students in conducting their research.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Conduct laboratory, greenhouse and field research experiments.
- Manage and maintain field research sites.
- Collaborate with farm crew for timely planting, harvesting and other in season crop management practices in field research trial.
- Routinely collect, store and process plant and soil samples from experimental sites.
- Operate field and laboratory equipment.
- Purchase and maintain seed, fertilizers and other necessary experimental supplies as needed.
- Train and assist graduate and undergraduate students in setting up and conducting their research projects.
- Collect, compile and analyze experimental data and assist in developing progress reports.
- Organize and participate in training sessions and workshops.
- Drive University/State vehicles.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Science, Agriculture or a related field; 1-2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
- Ability to set up and conduct laboratory, greenhouse and field experiments.
- Experience with planting, harvesting, crop management and related farm work.
- Ability to operate and maintain field and laboratory equipment.
- Knowledge of research techniques, methods and procedures.
- Knowledge of data compilation, interpretation and analysis methods and techniques.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to maintain concise and accurate records.
- Ability to work within the guidelines of specific projects to gather and interpret experimental data.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Physical activity related to farming: heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling objects over 50 pounds.
- Handling of farming equipment.
- Frequent outdoor work.
- Standing and/or walking up to several hours.
- Working outside in adverse weather conditions such as hot and cold.
- Involves considerable exposure to unusual elements such as dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
- Laboratory environment may have regular exposure to biological, radiation, chemical, and mechanical hazards, vapors, fumes, and temperature variations.
- Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
