Research Scientist – Allen Lab in St. Louis, MO 63132

Donald Danforth Plant Science Center

The Allen USDA lab at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, in collaboration with others is seeking an organized and motivated research scientist or post doc. This position will focus on analyzing metabolism from transgenic plants that have been engineered to produce more oil.

Responsibilities:

Conduct research experiments to assess plants with modified compositions
Perform greenhouse and/or field work to support efforts
Maintain precise records of research findings and the analysis of results
Write reports as required, communicate findings, and prepare manuscripts for publication
Mentor others and work collaboratively in the lab to learn and aid in other projects
Work collaboratively as part of a team, and mentor graduate and/or undergraduate students as appropriate
Present research at professional meetings
Other duties as assigned

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Able to organize, multitask time efficiently and work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary and interactive research environment
Effective writing and communication skills, meticulous record keeping
Biochemistry background with extractions and purifications of proteins and lipids
Experience with molecular biology, gene expression and protein/western blot analysis
Skills with mass spectrometry and oil quantification by GC-FID

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Graduating PhD student or current Postdoc
Previous experience with plant biochemistry, central and lipid metabolism, mass spectrometry, and carbon and nitrogen nutrition for plants would be ideal.
