The major responsibility of the Extension Weed Science Program is to provide a strong state-wide weed science education program in cooperation with other agricultural and plant science specialists, faculty within the department and college, area research/extension center staff, and area and county extension staff.
This position supports the Extension Weed Science program at NDSU. This position will establish and utilize field demonstration research plots and work cooperatively with other department research faculty in conducting weed control tours. Conduct field research on weed control in areas of new chemicals, new weed problems, adjuvant and application technology, and more efficient and judicious use of chemicals. Manage field, greenhouse, and laboratory research and research report efforts in the Extension weed science project.
Other responsibilities include:

Cooperate with private industry, USDA-ARS, other universities, faculty/staff in the Department of Plant Sciences, other NDSU departments, other state, area, and county agriculture specialists, ag professionals, and growers in their weed control efforts;
Assist in educational efforts, by summarizing and organizing research information for presentation at education meetings;
Assist in preparing research reports, and writing and revising publications and computer software;
Use computer technology to enter and statistically analyze research data, and prepare reports in various formats;
Use current and future computer technology in information transfer and presentation.
Give presentations at professional conferences and meetings, and manage Part Time employees.

Advertised Salary: $50,000+/year
Minimum Qualifications:

Earned B.S. degree in Plant Sciences, Agronomy, Crop and Weed Sciences or closely related agricultural discipline.
Previous research experience in laboratory, field and greenhouse management experience.
Specialized knowledge in adjuvant and application technology, advanced statistical analysis, research plot equipment operation and maintenance, ARM and SAS computer software proficiency.
Demonstrated ability on the use/operation of field research plot and lab equipment.
Experience supervising others.
Ability to work effectively with coworkers, producer groups, industry personnel and the public.
Ability to interpret research results.
Completed an internship with university and/or industry in agriculture.
Demonstrated skills in oral and written communication.
Demonstrated skills in computer applications and technology.
Valid U.S. drivers license or equivalent.
Must be capable of lifting 50+ pounds.
Ability to earn Pesticide Applicators Certificate.

Preferred Qualifications:

Earned M.S. degree in Plant Sciences, Agronomy, Crop and Weed Sciences or closely related agricultural discipline.
Farm experience.
Knowledge of North Dakota agricultural production systems.
